Costa Rica is a great destination for a winter getaway. Aside from the beautiful beaches and hot sunny weather there is a wealth of well-preserved natural attractions, and an amazing variety of plant and animal life. There are several types of rain forests, home to lush foliage and brightly coloured birds. The sprawling valleys are a hundred shades of green and flowers bloom all around.
We begin with a four-night stay in San Jose (the capital city and cultural centre) with excursions to nearby attractions. Our hotel is the centrally located, first class Casa Conde Suites. Hotel facilities include a swimming pool and jacuzzi, restaurant and bar. Transportation to the popular pedestrian Mall San Pedro is available. The suites have comfortable furnishings with a bright, fully equipped kitchen, sitting area, bedroom and full bathroom. They also have a phone, TV and air conditioning.
We spend the next three nights in the Arenal region exploring the countryside, the volcano and hot springs. Our hotel here is the best available in the area - moderate with simple two bedded rooms and bathroom with shower or tub. The hotel has lovely gardens, a swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
Next is a six-night stay at the Barcelo Langosta Beach Resort, an all-inclusive resort hotel located on the Pacific Ocean near the charming coastal town of Tamarindo in the province of Guanacaste. This is a casual and informal resort with a sandy beach and stunning ocean view - perfect for enjoying the sea and sun. The hotel has two buffet restaurants, a poolside snack bar and a lobby bar. Included are all local alcoholic beverages, juice and soft drinks. Facilities include an outdoor pool and jacuzzi, tennis courts, souvenir shop and bike rental. The daily activity program includes aerobics and dance classes. Recreational activities such as sport fishing, golf and snorkeling are available.
We include two excursions during our stay in Guanacaste, and optional tours are available at the hotel's tour desk. There is also a local bus with service to San Jose.
After our stay in Guanacaste we return to San Jose for an overnight before returning home.
This tour is best suited for the active traveller who enjoys walking.
