EXOTIC CHINA

This tour will appeal to those who have already visited China, and wish to see a less travelled and more exotic region of the country. China has an amazingly well preserved history of 3,000 years and unique scenery that can be found no other place in the world. On this tour we stop in the major cities of Beijing and Shanghai to see their highlights, however our main focus will be the Southwest of China in the exotic province of Yunnan.

Yunnan has some of the most magical and diverse scenery in all of China and is home to many ethnic minorities. In Chengdu we visit the Panda Research station which has had impressive results in the breeding of giant Pandas and the smaller red Pandas. From Chengdu we fly to Kunming (the Spring City), the provincial capital. This is the most cosmopolitan and relaxed city in China, and the area of the capital is home to 2,500 varieties of wild flowers and plants, with wonderful scenery and a mild year-round climate. Our next stop, Dali, has a wonderful location between mountains and a lake, and it is here that we begin to see the costumes and cultures of the many ethnic communities of Yunnan Province. Then we visit Lijiang - a UNESCO world heritage site. The historic old town is a maze of tiny streets, old wooden buildings and fast flowing canals.

Some of our touring between cities is by coach, so there will be ample opportunity to appreciate the rural landscapes and myriad of lifestyles in Yunnan Province.
